Positive Water birth Induction Story

I have been lucky enough to support Gracie throughout her Pregnancy, with weekly Pregnancy Yoga classes that she attended for the whole of her second and third trimesters. She even came to classes past her 40-week due date and always seemed so positive and calm about her pregnancy journey. In the final yoga classes, Gracie was pretty clear she wasn't feeling any signs of the birth being imminent, and seemed accepting and confident of what her body and her baby were up to. It was lovely being around someone who was radiating a deep trust in herself. For me as a yoga teacher, who is lucky enough to travel with women throughout the months of their pregnancies, I notice how women often get to know themselves and their body's so well during pregnancy. The physical, emotional and life changes we go through encourage us to turn our focus inwards, and we are left with an acceptance of needing to surrender to what is. So much changes around and within us, but we, as mothers, are the constant observers of the process.

Gracie was an inspiration to have in my classes, and so I was incredibly grateful when she shared news of her birth - with an intention of helping to ease the worries of other mums who might have similar situations. Below is the message Gracie shared with her Pregnancy Yoga group, and she has kindly given permission for me to share here so that more of you can access her experience.

"Just wanted to share a really positive birth/induction story, hoping it might help some of you. I was scared of the possibility of being induced from so many stories, but I had the most positive, empowering experience.

I chose induction at 41w5d and had him at 42w due to time passing and how my body was feeling. Ended up needing just the pessary to kick-start my body for a 30-hour labour which was manageable with lots of focus on breathing, knowing how to use the yoga ball, as well as listening to the pregnancy yoga playlist whilst birthing (thank you endlessly Zoe!! 🥰).

Despite thinking induction would mean no water birth, as my waters went by themselves and midwives listened to my wishes the whole way and didn’t push for the hormone drip when I declined, I had our gorgeous 9lb5oz baby on Meadow, in the water. Truly magical.

I wish I had a little less fear going into it all, as positive induction stories seem to be few, so hope this can help someone else in some way! I also cannot thank you and your course enough, Zoe.

Really been missing yoga so hopefully get to book onto some baby courses soon 🤍"

Thank you for sharing Gracie
